Why we exist

Technology decides who gets heard. It decides which organisations reach donors, which ones answer a beneficiary within the hour, which ones can show a funder what a year of work produced. Access to it is not distributed by who needs it most. It is distributed by who can pay.

So the organisations doing the hardest work are usually the worst equipped to talk about it. A foundation running a feeding programme has no communications team. A community health NGO answers WhatsApp messages from a personal phone at midnight. A literacy charity posts to Facebook when someone remembers. Meanwhile the tools that would fix all of that are priced for companies with marketing budgets.

That gap is not a technology problem. The technology exists. It is an access problem, and access is something we are in a position to give away. So we do: the same platform, the same features, no charge, for as long as the organisation is doing the work.

We think of it as bridging access to both technology and the opportunity that follows from it. An organisation that can be seen and can respond quickly attracts donors, volunteers, partners and funders it would otherwise never have met. The tool is the means. The opportunity is the point.

The same barrier stands in front of people. A student leaves university with theory, and the roles that would teach them practice are the ones that ask for experience first. So we train them. HYPE takes young people through practical digital skills and places them inside real teams, and the first cohort finished with work they could point to and jobs to go to.

The two halves feed each other, and that is the whole idea. Young people who have found their footing give time and skill back to organisations that could never buy either, and the free platform makes those few hours count for far more than they otherwise would. Some of the first cohort now work with NGOs; others are on our volunteer list to help train the next one. Train people, place them, and let both the people and the tools reach the organisations doing the work.

What we provide

Approved organisations receive full access to Unit, a communication platform that publishes to Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, brings every comment and message into one inbox, and includes an AI trained on the organisation's own mission and programmes to help draft posts and answer enquiries.

We also do the setup. We connect the channels, train the AI on the organisation, and walk the team through it. Handing a stretched three-person charity a login and a manual would not be a gift.

We also advise. Years of consulting NGOs at no charge on technology, marketing, digital strategy, social media and branding is where this Foundation came from, and that help did not stop when it became one. If an organisation is trying to get a technology project done, or wants to reach a technology opportunity it qualifies for and does not know how to approach, we will work it through with them. We advise and we guide. We do not supply hardware or connectivity.

The platform itself is built by the Unit team, and businesses pay for the same thing at ctrunit.com. What the Foundation gives away is that platform in full, at no charge, to organisations that qualify.

Free software is one program of three. HYPE, our internship programme, stands for Harnessing Youth Potential through Empowerment: we train young people in practical digital skills and place them in real work. The first cohort ran remotely through 2023 and graduated in 2024, and applications for the second open in September 2026. And we take on consultancy for brands and organisations, whose proceeds help fund the free work.

Organisations we have worked with

Unit Foundation has worked with NGOs including Eco Africa, Accra Food Bank, BeTechConnected and Maltiti Foundation. More than ten NGOs have been supported or advised so far, and between them they reach over a thousand people in their own communities. That second figure is the one that matters: we do not serve those communities ourselves, we make sure the organisations that do can be heard. As more organisations come through the programme, the list will grow.

Who runs the Foundation

Unit Foundation is registered with the Registrar-General's Department, Ghana under number CG048220726, is based in Accra, and is governed by the following officers. We ask every applicant to show us their registration, so it is only right that ours is on the page.

Advised NGOs free of charge for years in technology, marketing, digital strategy, social media and branding. Built Unit, then decided the organisations that need it most should not be the ones paying for it.

How decisions are made

Every application is read by a person. We verify the organisation's registration, read what it does, and decide whether the platform genuinely serves that work. Decisions are recorded, and a decline always carries a reason. The criteria we apply are published in full on our eligibility page rather than kept internal.
