One mission, three programs

Unit Foundation works to widen access to technology and to the opportunity that follows it. Free software for nonprofits is one programme of three: HYPE trains and places university students in real remote roles, and consultancy for brands helps fund the free work.

Free access to Unit

Registered NGOs, foundations and charities get the Unit social communications platform free of charge, permanently: publishing, one inbox for Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp, campaigns, analytics and an AI trained on your cause. More channels, TikTok among them, are being added.

Unit is the software we build and run. Businesses pay for it; approved nonprofits do not. An approved organisation receives every feature on the highest plan, with no card, no trial and no expiry date.

Every grant includes the work that makes software actually land in a small organisation. We do the setup with your team: channels connected, the AI taught what your organisation does, the first posts planned together. We train your team in live sessions, remotely for teams anywhere and in person in Accra where distance allows, and we repeat them when staff change. And for as long as you hold the grant, a real mailbox read by the people who approved it answers your questions.

The grant covers the whole communication workload of a small organisation: planning and publishing posts, answering every comment and message from a single inbox, running campaigns, and reading clear reports on what reached whom. Unit is actively adding channels, TikTok among them, and approved organisations get each one as it lands, at no extra cost.

Beyond the platform, we advise. The Foundation grew out of years of consulting NGOs at no charge on technology, marketing, digital strategy, social media and branding, and that help is still on the table. If you are trying to get a technology project done, or there is a technology opportunity your organisation qualifies for and you do not know how to approach it, write to us and we will work it through with you. We advise and we guide; we do not supply hardware or connectivity.

Harnessing Youth Potential through Empowerment

HYPE Internship

We train young people in practical digital skills and place them in real work. The first cohort ran through 2023 and graduated in 2024. The second is built around AI literacy and low code automation, and applications open in September 2026.

HYPE exists because the gap between a curriculum and a first job is real: young people arrive with theory and are asked for practice. The first cohort drew over 69 applications. We shortlisted 25 and trained 14 over six months, remotely, core skills and a specialised track together, then real project work. Eleven facilitators taught it, every one of them a volunteer.

Every one of the 14 was placed, in technology companies, government agencies and NGOs including BeTechConnected, Eco Africa, Maltiti Foundation and Accra Food Bank. It does not end at placement: graduates give time back to the nonprofits we support, and several are on our volunteer list to help train the next cohort.

The second cohort is shorter and more intensive. Three months, blended, with AI literacy and low code automation running through every track rather than sitting in a module of their own, and roughly seventy percent project work. Tracks are website design and development, mobile app development, UI and UX design, graphic design, animation, automation, and digital marketing. Everyone finishes with a portfolio and a capstone that solves a real business problem. The soft skills track stays: communication, teamwork, entrepreneurship and the ethics of using AI honestly.

It is aimed at young Ghanaians finishing secondary school or in their first years of university, the point at which career guidance still changes the outcome, and placement help and coaching continue after graduation. For brands and organisations

Consultancy

We advise brands and organisations on digital communication and the practical use of technology. Consultancy engagements help fund the free programs.

The same team that sets up NGOs on Unit and trains HYPE interns takes on a small number of consultancy engagements: digital communication strategy, setting up and running social channels well, and putting the right tools in place for a team.

For clients it is senior, practical help. For the Foundation it is one of the ways the free work stays free: consultancy proceeds go toward the grants, the training and the internships.
