What matters to us

Advice should be practical, ethical and appropriate to the participant's stage. Mentors help people make informed decisions; they do not promise funding, customers or business success.

Volunteers built our first programme

HYPE, the Foundation's first youth programme, was delivered by eleven volunteer facilitators. They led remote training, mentored participants through real project work and helped every one of the fourteen graduates into a placement with a technology company, a government agency or an NGO. That is the model we are building on: people who do the work professionally, giving a structured slice of their time to someone starting out.

The time it takes is up to you

Some volunteers give a single session: one training, one portfolio review, one talk about how their industry actually works. Others mentor a participant or advise an organisation over a longer period. Tell us what you can offer and where your experience lies, and we will propose something that fits it rather than asking you to fit us.

What happens after you write

A person on the team reads your message and replies within five working days. If there is a fit, we discuss scope and timing with you before anything is agreed; offering your time is not a commitment until you say it is.
